Dr Britto, a qualified Doctor of Medicine, is a recipient of the Bal Chintoba Prize in Forensic Medicine. He has been accorded the status as a Specialist in Psychiatry by the General Medical Council UK (GMC) under the European Specialist Qualifications Order 1995.
Dr Britto practices Psychiatry - a branch of medicine. He is a Consultant Psychiatrist in full-time private practice in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire; undertakes medico-legal clinics at Fartown Green Road Surgery, Huddersfield, Hillview Surgery Perivale (West London) and provides consultant psychiatrist on-call cover and locum consultant-in-patient cover for Cygnet hospitals in West Yorkshire. He is a Chief Executive Officer for Britto Healthcare Limited. He was previously on the Board of Trustees for Forget Me Not Childrens Hospice and Board of Trustees for Anxiety UK. He has previously worked as: Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS in Shropshire (1995-1997) and West Yorkshire UK (1997-2006); Consultant Psychiatrist at Cygnet Hospital Bierley, Bradford (2006 to October 2019), Force Consultant Psychiatrist to Merseyside Constabulary, Liverpool (2001 to 2017).
Dr Britto has established a growing private clinical practice since 1997. He is a full time independent practitioner, working with acute and chronic mental health problems endured by the Working Age Group population. This ranges from diagnosing and treating Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Schizophrenia, Bi-polar affective disorder, Border-line Personality disorder and comorbid conditions such as Somatic Symptom Disorder, drug and alcohol addiction, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and related psychiatric disorders. He has since 1997 devoted time working with solicitors, employers and courts as an expert witness in psychiatry - personal injury, clinical negligence, employment and Mental Health Act tribunals, capacity assessments and in medico-legal cases related to general adult psychiatry.
Dr Britto's 35-year experience as a psychiatrist has been gained from a wide variety of roles in both NHS and private sector, including working with the legal profession. He has worked in a range of acute adult mental health services, community mental health teams and medical liaison teams in the UK. He is trained in prescription of medication, medical and psychological interventions for mental health problems that include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He adopts an integrative model for psychological treatment.
Dr Britto participates in regular supervision and annual appraisals by a designated body. He is up to date with Continuing Professional Development requirements. He attends regular training to stay abreast of the latest developments in Psychiatry and Medicine. He was revalidated by the GMC to continue practice as a doctor until 29th July 2027 (this is a 5-year cycle period). He intends to update the Revalidation in July 2027.
